Position Summary

This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE/8 hours per day position working on the CL-12 (260 days per full school year) schedule, Mon-Fri, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Operates maintenance equipment to repair maintain and construct, District fields, roads and parking.

Essential Functions:

  1. Operate backhoe, tractor, rotary mower, jack hammer, blacktop roller, sweeper, 5-yard and 10-yard dump trucks, grader, rototiller, and other heavy and light equipment.
  2. Prepare athletic fields by applying loam, rock, or marking chalk.
  3. Clean catch basins and drain lines; relocate as necessary to maintain proper flow of water run-off. May be required to use transit to calculate elevations and rate of flow for installation or alteration of drainage ditches.
  4. Clear brush, mow ditches, and perform other rough groundskeeping. Clear snow and sand during snow season.
  5. Contact utilities to determine locations of water and electric lines. Clear broken or clogged sewers, uncover power lines; dig footings or foundations for new buildings.
  6. Order and arrange delivery of asphalt; oversee crews in preparing, applying, rolling, and finishing asphalt lots.
  7. Clean, lubricate, adjust, and perform general maintenance and repair of equipment.
  8. Train other personnel in safe equipment use.
  9. Assist in moving athletic equipment, furniture, or other items.
  10. May be required to assist in the fabrication of needed equipment or parts.
  11. Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Thorough knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of light and heavy equipment used by the District.
  2. General knowledge of the principles of drainage, irrigation, and grounds care.
  3. Ability to plan and oversee the activities of work crews.
  4. Ability to understand and convey oral and written construction specifications. Ability to work independently for extended periods of time.
  5. Knowledge and application of safety practices in the operation of heavy equipment.
  6. Ability to respond to emergency situations during evenings and weekends.
  7. Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations.
  8. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Two years of experience in operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, preferably in a school setting.
  2. Possession of a valid Class A CDL license or obtain the Class A CDL license during the employee probationary period (first seven months).
  3. Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
