JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and security of assigned work areas. Work may be at assigned building(s) or on assigned specialty crews as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of: cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
Skilled: in cleaning, use of cleaning equipment and materials; use of district email and software systems.
Ability to: complete minor maintenance tasks; monitor inventory and coordinate with the physical plant department to assure adequate stocks of related supplies; follow oral and written instructions; perform physical tasks including lifting of heavy objects; and work with minimum supervision. Flexible and willing to do a variety of jobs to meet deadlines and complete all required training. Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and adults preferred.
Experience: Must have a minimum of two years custodial experience.
Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Certification Required: Medic First Aid Card.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform a variety of custodial duties as directed, including cleaning and minor maintenance and repair.
- Make reports of maintenance and repair needs to the building principal and Maintenance Supervisor as required.
- Lock and secure doors, windows, and turn off lights.
- Report fire and safety hazards and emergency maintenance concerns to the building principal and Maintenance Supervisor.
- Dress, speak, and act in a responsible manner with respect to the job assignment.
- Handle hazardous wastes and chemicals according to laws, district procedures, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Monitor inventories or required supplies and coordinate as directed to assure adequate quantities are on hand to perform assigned duties.
- Facilitate pre-approved after-hour uses of facilities.
- Keep outside walkways free from leaves and debris.
- Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and speak English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to push, pull and grasp tools. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to
50 pounds. The employee must be able to climb and work on ladders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Works in an educational environment. Able to operate machines used in custodial services as well as properly use chemicals and other cleaning supplies. Able to use a telephone and operate a computer. Ability to drive to other program sites and meetings.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Twelve-month period with holiday and leave time as established or other negotiated work calendar for part-time custodians. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on the evaluation of Classified personnel.
CLASSIFICATION/LOCATION:Classified, Regular, Full-Time Position, Newberg High School
CALENDAR/BENEFITS:8 hours per day, 2:30pm to 11:00pm for 12 months per year (260 days), starting ASAP upon hire.
Range 8 of the 2024-25 Classified Salary Schedule, $18.47 - $23.49 per hour
