The Airport Worker 1 - Facilities Maintenance works in a continuous operation environment (24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including holidays) performing a variety of skilled custodial, routine manual, and minor routine building maintenance duties maintaining the Eugene Airport terminal and office buildings.

Work Schedule: Graveyard Shift, 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday. (Employees assigned to this shift will receive a shift differential pay of $.80/hour)

Limited Duration (LD) Opportunity
- This posting is currently open to the public, COE full-time, part-time, limited duration, and RAE employees; TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. Following the internal posting this position may be posted to external candidates.
- This LD position could last up to 24 months per business need.
LD employees have many of the same benefits as regular AFSCME employees, with some exceptions due to the limited length of employment.

- Employees hired into LD positions will be members of the AFSCME bargaining unit and covered by the contract except for the items outlined below.

- LD employees are at-will and don't have a probationary period; they accrue no seniority, have no bumping or layoff provisions, and have no discipline or discharge rights.

Examples of Duties Performed - Duties may include but are not limited to the following Performs a variety of skilled custodial duties maintaining the airport terminal and other buildings including cleaning floors and carpets, washing windows, sanitizing rest rooms, and removing trash; assists with air filter replacement and high cleaning with use of hi-lift poles, scaffolding, and ladders.
Provides basic information or assistance to airport patrons, tenants, and agencies such as parking control and lost and found.
Performs minor and routine building maintenance duties to maintain airport facilities including: using compressors for pressure washing, performing minor and non-licensed plumbing repairs (replacing washers, controls leaks, unplugs drinking fountains, and tightens faucets); performs small interior and exterior painting projects; limited small repairs to doors, partitions, and equipment; performs small and routine cement and carpentry jobs.
Enforces airport rules involving trespass, loitering, disorderly conduct, storage, parking, inspection, taxis, and ground transportation.
Assists in general airport operations by monitoring the parking areas, security gates, and airport terminal loading and unloading area for compliance with parking regulations.
Provides assistance as a Medical First Responder to airport patrons.
May be required to perform work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions while exposed to a variety of hazards; may be required to lift heavy objects and equipment.
Assists other Airport Workers with duties related to general airport operations and maintenance including routine inspections or removing snow from airport / airfield surfaces.
Actively supports and respects diversity in the workplace.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience One year of experience in building maintenance or custodial work.
License or Certificate A valid Oregon driver's license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; Must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City's standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).
The Ideal candidate will possess the following:
Knowledge of:Supplies, materials, and equipment used in custodial and / or grounds maintenance.
Practices and methods in custodial and / or grounds maintenance.
Ability to: Identify occupational hazards; use safety precautions.
Perform custodial, grounds maintenance, and minor building repair duties.
Operate and maintain light vehicles and small equipment and tools.
Perform a support role in the general operations of the Eugene Airport.
Work well with other employees and the public.
Perform physical work indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions.
Enforce airport parking regulations tactfully.
Communicate well, both orally and in writing.
Deal tactfully and effectively in difficult situations.
Operate equipment used in custodial maintenance, small tow truck, and other vehicles requiring basic driving skills.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Provide and wear personal protective equipment as required.
Be available, and respond to, emergency call-back as necessary.
Maintain an active telephone number in order to be contacted for emergency call-back.
SUCCESSFULLY PASS A TSA FINGERPRINT-BASED CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECK. Supplemental Information Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Overall 90% indoors, 10% outdoors while cleaning, walking between buildings, dumping trash. Hazards include moving equipment, trip obstacles, fumes, cuts and stick wounds, slippery surfaces, working at heights, exposure to electric shock and toxic/caustic chemicals and biological hazards. Equipment used include floor scrubbers, ladders, hand/power tools, step stools, hand truck, vacuum cleaners, buffers, extractors, pressure washer, blowers, lawnmower, carpet cleaner, mops, dust mops, brooms, and other cleaning equipment and supplies. Safety equipment used includes suitable footwear, eye protection, gloves and other PPE as required.
