Position Summary:
As a CAHOOTS Crisis Worker, you work alongside a medic as part of a two-person team staffing in a mobile crisis team. You will have the primary responsibility of completing mental health assessments and providing crisis counseling.
Essential Functions
Work CAHOOTS mobile crisis intervention shifts patrolling the streets and parks throughout Springfield as dispatched by 911 or other resources.es.
Comply with all Federal, City, County, and State regulations.
Continuously build and maintain positive relationships with community members, community partners, and clients.
Assume primary responsibility for making mental health assessments of clients and for providing crisis counseling.
Make appropriate referrals and resource recommendations to services in the community.
Ability to interact with clients with diverse and varied backgrounds and clinical needs, including impoverished and alienated people.
Appropriately document all client interactions according to White Bird Clinic policy.
Attend required department and clinic meetings and share other responsibilities as needed.
Complete and maintain all required training and certifications, including CJIS clearance and a state-mandated background check.
In no case will CAHOOTS transport anyone over their expressed objections.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Must be certified as a Qualified Mental Health Associate within thirty (30) days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment as a Crisis Worker.
Must be able to comply with all local, federal, and state regulations
Minimum two years of experience in crisis intervention or delivery of mental health services
Ability to drive and repeatedly climb in and out of a commercial van
Ability to operate a cell phone, two-way radio, police radio, and laptop computer
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Must be able to pass a stringent background check and driving record review through CJIS as well as a state-mandated background check.
Current certification in first aid & CPR or completed within thirty (30) days of hire
Complete CAHOOTS and White Bird training programs within proscribed timelines
Fluent or conversational in Spanish or American Sign Language preferred
Key Competencies:
Experience in crisis intervention or delivery of mental health services in community-based settings.
Knowledge about humanistic, client-centered approaches to mental health services.
Experience with harm reduction and/or restorative justice practices.
Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills, including skills in building rapport with clients and community partners, and communicating effectively with co-workers.
Ability to thrive in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
Ability to give and receive feedback with grace and compassion.

Compensation Details:
This is an hourly, union, non-exempt position with a target starting base compensation of $22 per hour paid on a bi-weekly basis.
This position requires successful passage of a State mandated background check.
