Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

Supervises, coordinates, organizes, and directs skilled maintenance and repair work on District buildings and park facilities. This position is responsible for performing and supervising day-to-day operational duties, with an emphasis on field supervision and field implementation of maintenance activities, and to provide specialized technical support to field crews performing maintenance activities. Does related work as assigned.

An employee in this classification is responsible for corrective and preventive maintenance of district buildings and park facilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities and Fleet Maintenance Manager who reviews work primarily on the basis of results attained and on the accomplishment of outlined objectives and goals. This position will exercise direct supervision over Structures Assistants, Electricians, Building Maintenance Specialists, Building Maintenance Aides, seasonal employees, part-time employees, volunteers, and other staff as assigned.

Examples of essential duties performed include:

  • Work with the Facilities & Fleet Maintenance Manager to establish and analyze overall priorities, goals, and objectives for the facilities maintenance program.
  • Work with the Facilities & Fleet Maintenance Manager to evaluate programs, activities, and services provided.
  • Supervise departmental staff to ensure district goals and objectives are met.
  • Actively support safety and loss control measures.
  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Develop, review, and revise work plans and operational policies and procedures.
  • Professionally respond to inquiries, questions, and complaints from staff and patrons.
  • Supervise the implementation and compliance of policies and procedures.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and on-call status as needed.
  • Serve as a member/consultant to applicable district and/or community committees, task forces or focus groups.
  • Recommend and assist with preparation of annual department budget and monthly budget projections.
  • Oversee department supply and material purchasing.
  • Supervise general repair and maintenance activities and coordinate construction projects.
  • Supervise and perform repair or replacement of park and recreation facility plumbing systems.
  • Supervise installation and maintenance of outdoor hard surfaces.
  • Supervise electrical installation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Supervise general construction.
  • Supervise maintenance and repairs to park and recreation facilities.
  • Read and interpret specifications, plans, and construction drawings.
  • Oversee, participate in, and coordinate maintenance work.
  • Receive, schedule, and prioritize maintenance work orders.
  • Conduct research, prepare reports, and communicate findings.
  • Performs other job-related duties or tasks as required.

Desirable qualifications include knowledge of supervision, public administration, budgeting, and record keeping; skills in computer systems, maps, and documents; and abilities in communication, supervision, and problem-solving.

Physical demands include standing, bending, lifting, and general mobility. Personal protective equipment required includes ear protection, safety glasses, gloves, and respirator mask.

Required experience and training include a four-year college degree and five years of facilities or park maintenance experience. Preferred experience includes seven years of experience and certifications in playground safety and pool operation.
