Health & Wellness Attendant

Description:

The Health & Wellness Attendant for the Eugene Family YMCA supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Primary responsibilities include working closely with Wellness Coaches keeping workout areas clean and safe. Build relationships with members as they work to become healthier. Help keep members safe at all times by imparting and enforcing all rules and cleaning and maintaining fitness equipment and space.

This is an evergreen role, meaning we are always accepting applications for this position due to ongoing hiring needs.


  • Oversee the facility at all times to ensure the safety of participants and security of equipment
  • Educate participants and enforce rules and regulations regarding safe and proper use of the equipment and facility
  • Familiarize participants with the safe and effective use of fitness, aerobic and free weight equipment
  • Maintain equipment and report any safety or maintenance needs to the department director
  • Clean and "wipe down" all equipment on a regular basis as scheduled
  • Follow opening and closing procedures
  • Prepare incident and injury reports when appropriate
  • Provide a friendly, upbeat and customer service environment at all times
  • Ensure a safe environment for all participants
  • Provide quality customer service for all participants
  • Obtain YMCA-required trainings, including CPR/First Aid/AED and Bloodborne Pathogen Certification, Youth Protection, and Workplace Discrimination & Harassment Prevention, (within 90 days of hire date).
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous customer service experience
  • Previous experience working at a YMCA
  • Previous experience working in a fitness center
  • Able to speak proficient conversational Spanish

  • Must be able to walk, run, stand, sit, kneel and get back to a standing position
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment, including the ability to navigate stairs

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and distance vision
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • The employee may occasionally deal with confrontational community members or Y members
