Solid Waste Operator

This Solid Waste Operator position is based at the Glenwood Transfer Station. Duties may include, but are not limited to, operating equipment such as roll-off trucks, mobile packer trucks, and tractor-trailer rigs, and performing other duties as assigned in the performance of waste transfer and recycling-related activities.

The Division of Waste Management oversees the management of solid recycling and solid waste in Lane County. The Division's mission is to provide safe, responsible and economical recycling and disposal services, while respecting the environment and the communities it serves.

Schedule: Waste Management operates on a four-days per week / ten hours per day schedule. The schedule for this position will be Wednesday - Saturday: 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Qualifications

Training and Experience: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Two years of experience in the operation of a variety of over-the-road transport and/or landfill construction equipment, including experience performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks. An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements: Due to Department of Transportation requirements for those currently holding Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDLs), all candidates referred for interview for positions requiring a CDL will be asked to sign a consent to allow their former employers to disclose to Lane County's Department of Public Works alcohol and drug related information for the past 3 years. This information will ONLY be requested after a conditional offer of employment has been extended.

Employees in this classification are required to pass a pre-employment drug test, and to participate in an ongoing drug testing program; including, but not limited to, random testing according to requirements of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
