Medical Assistant

The Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center is looking to add a Medical Assistant to our team in Eugene, Oregon. As part of the Radiation Oncology department, this MA will be instrumental in helping the team manage incoming calls and communications and supporting the team with daily assigned tasks. Ideal for an MA looking to take their practice to the next level, this position will be part of a collaborative team of clinical professionals helping our patients navigate their various treatments. The Rad Onc Medical Assistant plays a vital role in the timing and sequencing of the radiation therapy department. Seeking a team player with great interpersonal skills who is able to pivot and support the team. This role will also support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

The general pay scale for this position at WVCI is $20.00-$33.00. The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, internal equity, etc.

Responsibilities

• Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
• Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes. Quality data metrics and
• Processes, sends and follows up on orders for imaging, genetic testing, outside referrals and studies.
• Attains insurance prior authorization for medication and consult referrals.
• Performs chart prep for upcoming patient appointments.
• Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
• Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
• Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
• Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
• Performs other administrative duties, i.e. scanning, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor.
• Order, process, and close the loop on imaging orders.
• Set up for special exams and procedures.
• Sterilization of equipment.
• Support the lead with therapy rotation schedule/ print and communicate. Coordination of Weekly Treatment Visits and complex scheduling for patients undergoing both chemo and radiation treatments.
• Assist with maintaining QA standards
• May assist with custom patient molds/device support
• May assist in the setup of accurate radiation therapy treatments and simulations: clean / remove and store assistive materials (vacLocks,etc)
• Assists with scheduling desk duties including records acquisition and, answering phones, addressing questions about date/time/treatment.
• Primary point of initial contact prior to therapy.
• Maintain inventory in treatment rooms as well as patient dressing rooms with all necessary linens.
• Removal of bags for biohazard pick up, adherence to OSHA and clinical standards for sharps, PPE and radiation standards.
• Work as a team with other MAs with rooming, cleaning, stocking, general MA duties.
• Support CT/RT with room turn over, linen and patient assistance.
• Other tasks as assigned.
• Prepares FMLA and Oregon Paid Leave documentation for patients and eligible family members in accordance with physician guidelines.
• Assist in the use of Hoyer lifts and sit-to-stand devices for patients with mobility limitations.
• Maintains compliance with all required annual training and competency standards.
• Perform physician delegated skin dressing with accuracy and adherence to clinical standards.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• 1-3 years of experience
• Experience with specialty clinic or hospital setting strongly preferred
• Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistant or NCMA certification preferred
• Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire
