Position Summary

Under the direction of the Health Center Manager, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) will work as a member of a team that operates from established procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency in the day-to-day operations of the reproductive health center and facilitate high quality, inclusive patient care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Duties

  • Maintain patient medical records in good order, utilizing standard language and approved abbreviations and following accepted medical standards for charting.
  • During each patient visit obtain/record accurate vital signs and interview patients to obtain medical history, identify specific visit needs and/or medical problems and answer patient questions. Arrange referrals as necessary.
  • Dispense medications and contraceptives, including injections, at the direction of the Medical Director, and under the supervision of the registered nurse or clinician.
  • Administer tests required to deliver all patient services provided, which includes but is limited to pregnancy test, HIV, urine analysis dip and hemoglobin.
  • Deliver all information in a non-judgmental objective manner to promote the individual's right to obtain reproductive services at their discretion.
  • Calling patients when necessary and answering patient questions.
  • Obtain and prepare lab samples in accordance with established protocol, file laboratory reports, maintain the lab area and lab equipment, and document quality control measures.
  • Perform routine clinic maintenance to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Adhere to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.
  • Attend special meetings and assist Clinic Manager with new hire training as necessary.
  • Stay up to date with the policies and procedures of Planned Parenthood to ensure compliance with pertinent government regulations including OSHA, CLIA and HIPAA.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • Demonstrated experience following policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1-year previous customer service experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual is a plus.
  • Previous experience in an office and/or medical setting.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance.
  • Understanding of basic computer operations.

Travel & Availability Requirements
