A Day in the Life of the Structural & Civil Engineer

In this role, you'll take the lead on designing, analyzing, and managing a variety of civil and structural engineering projects throughout Eugene and surrounding communities in Oregon and the greater Pacific Northwest. From site development and infrastructure improvements to structural systems for commercial and public facilities, your work will have a visible and lasting impact.

You'll collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, surveyors, and planners, ensuring projects are safe, efficient, and aligned with Oregon building codes, seismic requirements, and environmental regulations. Your contributions will support the delivery of high-quality, practical engineering solutions for both public and private sector clients across Oregon.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Creating structural and civil designs using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Performing engineering calculations to ensure stability, safety, and code compliance (including Oregon seismic considerations)
  • Evaluating materials and construction methods for efficiency and regional suitability in the Pacific Northwest
  • Leading projects from concept through completion, managing timelines and budgets
  • Coordinating with clients, architects, contractors, municipalities, and local stakeholders
  • Conducting site inspections to verify compliance with design documents and safety standards
  • Ensuring adherence to Oregon building codes, environmental regulations, and permitting requirements
  • Troubleshooting issues that arise during construction phases
  • Preparing technical reports, calculations, proposals, and project documentation

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in Oregon or an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) actively pursuing licensure in Oregon
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and safety standards
  • Proven experience managing projects from start to finish, including reviewing shop drawings and submittals
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Familiarity with Oregon codes, permitting processes, and Pacific Northwest environmental conditions preferred
