OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:The Cook is responsible for meal planning and cooking meals for the residents. Maintains sanitation and follows necessary guidelines for food handling and safety.QUALIFICATIONS:* Education: High School diploma or equivalent.* Certification: Food Handler's License* Experience: Institutional or volume cooking experience.* Availability: Sunday - Wednesday plus some scheduled coverage for PTO hours* Driver's License: Valid in Oregon, acceptable record, and insurability under Agency's auto insurance.* Knowledge of USDA standards.* Knowledge of proper use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils.* Knowledge of proper storage and use of food.* Ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team.* Ability to relate effectively with youth, parents, community, and referral sources.* Ability to work in a structured, often stressful, environment and maintain a positive mental attitude.* Ability to maintain a sanitary kitchen facility.* Ability to maintain confidentiality.* Good communication skills.* Basic computer skills: MS Office, email, spread sheets.* Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.* Professional appearance appropriate to the position.* Commitment to Looking Glass Mission and Values.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:* Develops menus and prepares nutritious, appealing meals for youth and staff (25 45 people).* Develops and maintains a recipe file.* Purchases food, household supplies, and hygienic items for the program within a budget.* Order and pick up donated food from community food bank and other sources.* Reports kitchen maintenance needs to supervisor, and follows up as appropriate.* Maintains records required by the Oregon Department of Education Breakfast Program, Lunch Program, and Milk Program, including meeting nutritional requirements, meal counts, milk counts, monthly inventory and cost/clients meals assessment.* Assists with supervising youth working in the kitchen.* Prepares food for off-duty days.* Prepares large amounts of food as necessary by freezing or drying.* Completes other duties as assigned.
