SummaryThe Mid Council Connections Lead serves as a vital connector between Presbyterian Life & Witness and the mid councils of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This role requires a trusted presence who can build relationships, communicate effectively across the church, and help mid council leaders thrive in their ministry. This person will contribute to a healthy, cohesive staff team culture — bringing the same relational intentionality inward that they bring to the broader church.We are looking for someone who embodies PL&W's institutional values: a

in naming hard truths.Roles and Responsibilities

The following represent the essential responsibilities of this position, listed in order of importance:Build relationships and trust

across mid councils and PL&W agencies — fostering connection, collaboration, and mutual accountability throughout the church with a focus on consistent communication with mid council partners.Gather and share resources

and best practices for mid council leaders and serve as a primary communication link between the PL&W and mid councils.Plan and lead gatherings and training events

in coordination with colleagues in Thriving Mid Councils -- including the Mid Council Leaders Gathering, Mid Council Leader Orientation, and Moderators' Conference.Identify and communicate trends

— discerning emerging issues, concerns, and opportunities within mid councils and conveying them to PL&W leadership, mid council leaders, and the broader church.Oversee key administrative and compliance processes , including the review of Synod minutes, approval of national certifying bodies, reporting of sexual misconduct allegations and charges as directed by the GA, and maintaining the boundaries database and map in collaboration with IT staff.Coordinate mid council connections within the PL&W and with mid council partners

— approximately 30% of this role is dedicated to facilitating relationships, communication, and collaboration within the PLW ecosystem and among mid council partner organizations.Provide parliamentary expertise , serving as parliamentarian upon request and offering training on parliamentary procedure as needed.Support GA committees, commissions, and task forces

as assigned by the Stated Clerk.Travel

to meetings, conferences, and the General Assembly as required.Required QualificationsGraduate-level degree required (Master of Divinity, Theology, or other relevant field).Active Teaching Elder or Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), in good standing with a presbytery or congregation5+ years of work in mid-councils or significant experience in mid council ministries.Established credibility and trust among mid council staff and leadersDeep knowledge of PC(USA) polity, structure, and governanceExcellent oral and written communication skills in EnglishDemonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and intercultural competenceExperience with parliamentary procedure and Robert's Rules of OrderAbility to manage interpersonal relationships with skill and careProficiency with current technology and digital toolsCheerful persistence and genuine optimism about the future of the churchPreferred QualificationsMultilingual — fluency in Spanish, Korean, or any additional language beyond EnglishCertified parliamentarianRequired Competencies:Champion the aspirational purpose, values, ministry priorities, and work plan of the Interim Unified Agency (IUA) in your contribution, teamwork, attitude, ethics, behaviors, and all work relationships with people inside and outside the IUA.Enact a bias toward taking responsibility.Able to work without directionCan work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environmentCurrent, clear license to operate a vehicleDeep understanding of and commitment to cultural and racial ethnic inclusiveness.
