Detailed tracking of workRespectful and clear communication working with operators, leads and managementPresenting and communicating progress and improvements to individuals and groupsReporting to the manufacturing engineering manager progressSupport engineers by providing crucial input on designPrepare SOPs for setup and operation for operatorsLoad programs in CNC machines and provide instruction on setupMust determine operation sequence, select, and adjust tools, and proof tests programs for each planned part runoffTroubleshoot problematic set-ups and document changesPerform quality assurance test to ensure the products meet design speciation's on new programKey Activities & ResponsibilitiesDevelops programming for various CNC machines using Master CAM software, Mazatrol; determining proper feeds, speeds, and cutting tools; and maximizing efficiency of cutter pathsAttending weekly true north board meetings and providing updates, requesting support and raising awarenessPrepares work instructions for setup and recommends the use of inserts, fixtures, and tooling for various job operationsIdentifies areas for improving the setup or program and makes the improvement. Minimum 2/week. Works with supervisor/Mfg Eng, to design, purchase or make changes as necessaryPartners with Engineering and Manufacturing departments to develop safe and efficient part programming and processes that supports lean manufacturing goalsManages programming related files with Predator software and on the company network to maintain accuracy and securityDemonstrates full commitment that all produced CNC programs follow Astec's quality requirementsResponsible to write & create method sheets for machine shop, press brake, and robotic welding before the operations get startedMonitors machining times and optimizes it regularly by implementing new machining techniques and methodsAlways maintains and updates the CNC program database with matching the revisions of programs against the engineering technical drawingsWork closely with machinists by assisting with preparing, optimizing, and updating programs to improve machiningMay operate various machines from time to time providing direction on setup and to optimize the programOther responsibilities as needed to meet the needs of the businessTo be successful in this role, your experience and competencies areAssociate of Art's degree (A.A.) from two-year College or similar degree from a technical school; or 5+ years related experience and/or training working as a machining center programmer or operator; or equivalent combination of education and experience equivalent as deemed sufficient by managementMinimum 5 years' experience as a CNC Programmer in a machine shop's heavy equipment manufacturing industry. Experience on a variety of CNC controlled machines.
