Variable Hours Research Assistant

The Oxford Internet Institute (OII) is a multidisciplinary research and teaching department at the University of Oxford, dedicated to exploring the implications of emerging technologies for how people live, work and govern.

We have an exciting opportunity to become a part of the Science of Startups Initiative at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford and under the supervision of Dr Fabian Brasemann.

This is a variable hours role which is fixed term for 6 months and starting 1 October 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to work to an average of 5 hours per week/120 hours maximum throughout the duration of the contract.

You will be based in Oxford, on site at the Oxford Internet Institute, Schwarzman Centre, and there may be the opportunity for occasional remote working.

You will be responsible for maintaining and extending infrastructure to collect job board data at scale, and to develop an agentic data collection pipeline for web archive data.

The successful candidate will have a first degree, together with some relevant experience, and sufficient specialist knowledge in computer science, data science or a related discipline. Excellent communication skills and evidence of managing technical workflows in research are essential.
