Emerald PUD is looking to add a knowledgeable, experienced, and motivated Accounting Technician I to our team. This position`s primary responsibilities include payroll and accounts payable processing with some related general ledger work. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a role with similar responsibilities at a corporation or agency with multiple departments and/or more than 50 employees where formal accounting processes and systems were in place.

Job Summary:
The Accounting Technician I position plays a key role in Emerald`s long-term strategic plan. This is a professional position with various accounting responsibilities. The primary focuses of the position include payroll, accounts payable, and other general ledger related work. Knowledge of accounting theory, principles and practices and their application is required. Knowledge of state and federal laws related to payroll is also required. A qualified Accounting Technician I performs all duties and responsibilities described below with minimum supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Amount of time working in each function may vary. It is expected that the amount of time spent performing each function will fluctuate as needed for an employee to successfully manage their schedule.
1. Payroll Functions
· In-house payroll processing (currently biweekly for employees, monthly for Board members, and as needed)
· Provide payroll-related support for employees
· Coordinate with the HR Team regarding employee data
· Audit payroll data output
· Process related withholding payables
· Distribute payroll checks and paystubs
· Perform month end payroll process
· Process quarterly and annual requirements, including W2`s
2. Accounts Payable Functions
· Continuous invoice distribution, coding, and entry
· Weekly payment processing
· Monthly statement review and follow-up
· Maintenance of unclaimed property and annual filing with the state
· Vendor file maintenance including W9`s
· Prepare the annual IRS Form 1099
· Company credit card processing
· Be the custodian of petty cash, reimbursing petty cash account as necessary
3. Responsible for maintenance, reconciliation, and analysis of assigned general ledger accounts.
4. Assist in preparing journal entries, year-end closing adjustments, reconciliations, and documentation for the annual audit.
5. Create miscellaneous accounts receivable invoices, process payments and follow up for collection
6. Calculate and accrue other utility financial obligations as assigned.
7. Assist with reviewing and monitoring accounting policies and practices for compliance with the accepted principles of financial management and internal controls.
8. Identify finance/accounting-related problem situations and make recommendations for solutions.
9. Act as a financial resource for all departments.
10. Perform additional related duties as requested.

Experience:
1. Must have three (3) years of accounting experience in a corporation or agency with multiple departments and/or more than 50 employees where formal accounting processes and systems were in place.
2. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Moderate to advanced Excel skills preferred.
3. Significant knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, regulations, and internal controls.
Education:
1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Associate`s degree in accounting preferred, or equivalent combination of education and five years of experience in payroll, payables, and general ledger accounting.
3. Certified payroll professional preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
1. Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
2. Use of office equipment where some agility and hand-eye coordination are needed.
3. Work environment can include shared workspaces and exposure to consistent or frequent noise from employee conversations.
