LOCATION: Northwest Youth Corps Headquarters, Eugene, Oregon

STARTING WAGE: $60,000 annual salary

ORGANIZATIONALBACKGROUND

Since 1984, Northwest Youth Corps (NYC), a non-profit organization, has given tens of thousands of youth and young adults opportunities to learn, grow, and experience success. Through partnerships with conservation agencies, youth and young adults gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry out a variety of stewardship projects, from which they can earn a paycheck, high school credit, and/or an AmeriCorps educational award. More importantly, these young people gain skills needed to become economically and socially self-sufficient, benefit their communities as citizen stewards, and recognize that they can make a positive difference. NYC also operates an accredited charter school, internship program, and the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC).

Position Summary

The Operations Director (OD) develops and executes systems that promote the efficient operation of our facilities, fleet use & maintenance, equipment purchase/repair, food programs for crews, and field communication systems. The Operations Director reports directly to the Deputy Director (DD). The Operations Director has oversight for a small team of staff who provide logistics support, facilities maintenance, vehicle and equipment maintenance, inventory and support for program management. The OD is responsible for planning documents, operational reports, professional oversight, staff meetings, and staff performance reviews. The OD works with staff to develop/document operational procedures and strengthen overall organizational administrative and programmatic infrastructure.

Position Details

Department Supervision and collaborations

The Operations Director supervises full-time staff in the Eugene office, as well as provides systems and logistical support to Operations staff in Idaho and Washington, which includes the requirement to travel to these locations on occasion. The position requires prioritization and delegation of multiple projects simultaneously. The Operations Director must have the demonstrated ability to identify problems, formulate and implement solutions, as well as evaluate success. The Operations Director will work daily with people across all departments of the organization; communication and collaboration is an essential function of this position.

Position Qualifications & Certifications

  • Commitment to Northwest Youth Corps Mission and Values.
  • Budgetary and financial management experience with an organization of similar size.
  • Experience in logistics and inventory controls.
  • Proven ability to identify problems and formulate and implement solutions as well as evaluate success.
  • Demonstrated success in analyzing, tracking, and restructuring of systems and procedures.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience in construction and/or with hand- and power-tools highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with a conservation or youth corps program highly desirable.
  • Spanish language skills highly desirable
  • History of effectiveness working with vendors, community organizations and/or public agencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Management and Oversight

  • Support/train program staff in procedures related to vehicles, equipment (including repair and maintenance systems), and facility use.
  • Oversee Operations staff completing duties in facility maintenance, tool maintenance, tool inventory, cell phone & tablet administration, and NYC’s food program.
  • Provide evaluations and professional development for staff
  • Work with the Deputy Director to develop annual Operations budget.
  • Compile quarterly/annual operational reports.

Facility

  • Oversee maintenance of facility mechanical systems via vendors.
  • Oversee maintenance of campus facility, mowing, and custodial services.
  • Provide basic systems support for facilities in Idaho and Washington including general support of security systems, facility maintenance, and overall operations procedures

Vehicles, Equipment and Food

  • Assist in the accurate tracking and reporting on all equipment and vehicle expenses.
  • Implementation of systems needed for vehicle and equipment readiness, as well as ongoing repair and maintenance needs.
  • Select and interface with vendors for food purchases, and vehicle and equipment repair/maintenance.
  • Ensure readiness of field technology and communications, including; cell phones, tablets, and spot devices.
  • Support staff with solutions for equipment, vehicle, and logistical problems in the field.
  • Maintain accurate inventories, report on shrinkage, and maintain organized storage and repair areas.
  • Assist in the development of food menus and associated delivery of food to field programs.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • The physical demands of the job include bending, sitting, hiking, digging, lifting, all
    forms of manual labor, and driving.
  • In the performance of the job duties, the employee will work in a variety of environments
    from an office setting to various outdoor settings.
  • This position will occasionally work outside in all types of weather conditions and
    environments including but not limited to high elevations, remote areas, cold, rain, snow,
    heat, humidity, wind, etc.
  • The noise level in the environment is quiet to loud. PPE is provided and use is required.
  • The employee must – occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds (with or without
    reasonable accommodation).
  • This position is physically demanding. While performing the duties of this job, with or
    without reasonable accommodation, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to
    handle, feel or operate objects, tools or vehicle; reach with hands and arms; sit; climb or
    balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, and hear; in an outdoor environment.

Terms of Employment

This is a full time, exempt position. Typical hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00 PM; with periodic long days and/or evening and weekend responsibilities seasonally.
