Job Summary: 

The Landfill Gas Generation Plant Technician works at the Short Mountain Methane Power Plant and is responsible for the performance and health of the gas electrical generation system.  This requires ongoing maintenance and repairs of the equipment, understanding of emission-control technology and compliance requirements, and constant collaboration with the Landfill Gas Generator Operator to ensure the plant meets performance standards.  These critical activities ensure the system is producing a sufficient amount of power and operating at peak performance levels which is vital to Emerald`s mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Examples of Duties – Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Facility and System Support- Maintain all waste-to-energy facility equipment in order to ensure the gas generation system is working efficiently and effectively.  This includes performing diagnostic evaluations, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and conducting routine maintenance on electrical, digital, and analog equipment within the facility.  Monitor and maintain the additional equipment and systems within the facility, such as the power distribution system, industrial electronic equipment, engine controls, A/C motors, induction generators, cooling systems, gas blowers, and Cat landfill gas engines.  This includes installation, modifications, repairs, maintenance, calibration of equipment when necessary, and creating and maintaining accurate blueprints of completed work.  Stay current on safety and environment regulations and ensure the equipment and operation meet compliance requirements.  Prepare and monitor the department`s expenses for the annual budget.
  2. Work Management- Embrace the culture of empowerment by using sound judgment, thoroughly reviewing and analyzing problems, making reasonable recommendations, and developing alternate solutions when necessary. Work independently and take ownership of assignments, following through to ensure projects and tasks are completed on time and in a thorough manner. Take initiative to solve problems and explore opportunities to increase efficiencies.
  3. Team Contribution and Communication- Cooperate and keep an open mind when working with others.  Focus on developing strong working relationships with colleagues. Look for opportunities to collaborate with and provide support to other team members and departments in order to accomplish tasks and projects. Communicate with vendors and contractors in a professional manner and negotiate with tact. 
  4. Computer and Technology Use- Utilize computer systems and programs to gather and analyze data, including programmable logic controller (PLC) systems.  Help generate meaningful information to assist with decision making, increase efficiency, and maximize productivity. Be receptive to opportunities and changes involving new technologies and procedures. 
  5. Customer Service- Provide exceptional service to both internal and external customers to ensure expectations are met or exceeded. Help to build Emerald`s brand as a trusted advisor and provider of choice by looking for opportunities to enhance the customer experience.   
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills:

  1. Must be knowledgeable in industrial power and control systems; single, three-phase, and DC logic. 
  2. Must have the ability to troubleshoot and repair all components of the gas generation system.
  3. Must be able to create work products independently, be self-directed, use sound judgement, and proactively work with others to solve problems. 
  4. Must be able to manage projects in a timely and well-organized manner.
  5. Must be able to collaborate across departments including with peers, customers, vendors, and contractors.
  6. Must have a basic understanding of computer systems and programs.
  7. Must be willing and able to learn new concepts and adopt alternative techniques within the rapidly changing utility industry.

Experience:

  1. Must have a minimum of 5 years` experience maintaining and repairing industrial type equipment. 
  2. Experience working with Cat landfill gas engines is preferred 
  3. Experience in welding is preferred.
  4. Must hold a current and valid Oregon driver`s license and have a good driving record.

Education:

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 
  2. Related college degree successfully completed course work, and/or related technical training is desirable.

Physical Demands:

  1. Must be able to lift, carry, pull, and push items sometimes in excess of 50 lbs. in rough terrain and adverse weather.
  2. Must be willing to work over the regular 40 hour/week schedule, and be willing to be called out for service in the event of a power outage or other emergency.
